Book Week: 2nd – 6th March 2020
Next week is Book Week, where we will be celebrating all things book and story related at Tuel Lane, including the annual World Book Day on Thursday 5th March.
All week, each class will be reading a wide range of different books each day. Staff will be visiting different classrooms to read their favourite books, and Mrs Firth from Christ Church Juniors will be visiting to read to the Year 2 children. Other fun activities such as a story quiz will be taking place during the week.
To get involved and encourage your child’s love of reading, we’d like you to see how many unusual places you can photograph your child reading in. How about up a tree, on a swing, or even on a trampoline?? Please email any photographs to Mrs Hibbert – firstname.lastname@example.org for us to print out.
Please also try to support our book fair if you have not already done so – it will be running before and after school on Monday 2nd, and before school on Tuesday 3rd March. School gets a percentage of all the book sales to spend on books that will be added into our class libraries for the children to enjoy.
Birds of Prey Experience
To kick start this half term’s new topic of ‘Can it Fly?’, the children were treated to a falconry experience on Wednesday. SMJ Falconry brought four birds of prey in to visit us – a barn own, a white-faced owl, a kestrel and a peregrine falcon.
The children learnt about how each bird hunts and the adaptations they have made to help them in their quest for food. The children all had the opportunity to ask questions and then hold one of the birds on their arm. A great experience was had by all!
